THE PROTEIN GROUP
Protein is an integral part of your pets diet.
Our low ash, antibiotic
and hormone free chicken and turkey meal,
plus fishmeal and eggs, bring more to the
dish than just good flavor-they are lean,
excellent sources of protein.
High quality meat protein
provides all the essential amino acids dogs
and cats need. Minerals like calcium and phosphorous
are present in the chicken, too.
THE GRAIN GROUP
Whole brown rice, ground white rice, whole
oats and barley are healthful grains—important
sources of B vitamins, carbohydrates, iron,
fiber and selenium, which aid in the function
of the enzyme system.
KELP
Kelp is known as the vegetable of the sea.
It contains more than 12 vitamins, 60 minerals
and trace minerals, and 18 key amino acids,
all in a natural, balanced form.
Improved utilization of
food consumed by your pet is one of the many
benefits that kelp can offer.
CHELATED MINERALS
Minerals are directly and indirectly involved
with almost all physiological functions within
any living organism. Unfortunately, most minerals
in their natural inorganic state cannot be
absorbed.
To increase utilization,
minerals can be surrounded by amino acids
to help the body into absorbing the minerals;
this process is called chelation. In this
form, unnecessary deficiencies are less likely
to occur.
PROBIOTICS
Probiotics are microflora preparations of
friendly bacteria normally found in a healthy
digestive tract.
Lactobacillus acidophilus
and Lactobacillus planetarium, to name just
a few, provide a source of these bacteria.
These microflora not only produce a variety
of substances to aid in absorption of nutrients,
but also maintain optimum performance during
stress.
MORE VITAMINS & MINERALS
Vitamins E, C, and A (beta-carotene), selenium,
zinc, and maganese all play a vital role in
protecting cells form the damage caused by
environmental pollutants. These pollutants
are converted by enzymes into a new molecular
form known as “free radicals”.
A free radical is a molecule
that carries an extra unpaired electron. When
free radicals from in the body and enter the
body cells, three things can occur:
- Allergies occur
when the free radical attacks the cell membrane.
- Cells die
when the free radical invades the fat globule
used by the cell for nourishment.
- Cancer can develop
when the free radical attacks the cell nucleus-thus
interfering with the regulation of cell
division.
The body’s defense
against free radicals is antioxidants. Some
antioxidants are naturally produced by the
body to counter act the oxidation by the free
radical.
Other antioxidants are food-derived
factors, such as vitamins A, E, and C. Oxidation
of fat, for example, causes spoilage of meats
and is referred to as “rancid”.
Many pet food companies
use chemical antioxidants in their foods to
prevent rancidity.
The most commonly used chemicals are BHA,
BHT, and Ethoxyquin. Some animal tests have
shown adverse kidney, liver, brain, reproductive,
behavioral and allergic reactions to these
chemicals.
